The Whelk Lino Print
The Whelk is an original lino print by illustrator and printmaker Louisa Katherine Thomson who's continually inspired by Scotland; endlessly enchanted by its shorelines, people and landscapes.
Louisa's creative journey began while at the Edinburgh College of Art, where she explored her family's fisherfolk history and the stories of Scotland's 'Herring Lasses' – women young and old who prepared, pickled and packed the fish for exportation.
This particular print began as a hand-drawn illustration in her Edinburgh studio, before it was carved onto lino and ready for printing onto handmade deckle-edge paper. Every print is hand-signed and titled by the artist.
Measures approximately 13 x 17cm. Delivered unframed with a flat backing board and biodegradable cellophane wrap.
As this lino print is entirely handmade, there will be slight variations in the design which make every artwork unique.
